History-Makers Radiș and Adam Headline All-Romanian Crew for Golden Oar
Simona Radiș, Adriana Adam, Constantin Adam and Leontin Nuțescu bring Romania’s golden generation to Lake Burley Griffin
An all-Romanian crew arrives at Golden Oar 2026 fresh off the most decorated World Championships weekend in the sport’s history, with Simona Radiș, Adriana Adam, Constantin Adam and Leontin Nuțescu set to race together on Lake Burley Griffin. Between them, the four carry three Olympic medals, sixteen World Championship medals, and a piece of rowing history that had never been achieved before this year.
Simona Radiș is a two-time Olympic champion, having won gold in the double sculls at Tokyo 2020 before adding gold in the eight and silver in the double sculls at Paris 2024. At the 2026 World Championships in Amsterdam, Radiș made history alongside Adriana Adam, becoming the first rower ever to win three gold medals at a single World Championships — taking the coxless pair, the eight, and the mixed eight in the space of three days. It capped a career that has now delivered 24 major championship medals, including 8 World Championship golds, placing Radiș among an elite group of just eight athletes in history to reach that mark.
Adriana Adam, an Olympic champion in the eight at Paris 2024, shared in all three of Romania’s historic 2026 Worlds golds alongside Radiș. Adam has been a cornerstone of Romania’s sweep programme for close to a decade, with five World Championship golds and nine European Championship medals to her name across the pair, four and eight.
Constantin Adam, a three-time Olympian (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024), brings the experience of a long international career in the men’s eight. Constantin Adam won European Championship gold in 2026, adding to earlier silver and bronze medals from 2020 and 2018, and has collected three World Cup bronzes along the way.
Leontin Nuțescu, one of the rising names in Romania’s men’s programme, won gold in the mixed eight and silver in the men’s four at the 2026 European Championships, backed by a strong junior pedigree that includes the 2021 World Junior Championship title in the men’s pair. Nuțescu and Constantin Adam are no strangers to rowing together, having combined in the men’s eight that won bronze at the 2025 World Cup in Lucerne.
This all-Romanian crew joins a rapidly growing international field confirmed for Golden Oar 2026, alongside the Irish-Kiwi crew of Fintan McCarthy, Philip Doyle, Margaret Cremen and Ella Cossill, the trans-Tasman line-up of Lucy Spoors, Brooke Francis, Alex Hill and Angus Dawson, Serbia’s Martin Mačković and Nikolaj Pimenov racing with Germany’s Juliane Faralisch and the USA’s Sophia Vitas, and Dutch Olympic champion Karolien Florijn teaming with Lithuania’s Viktorija Senkutė and New Zealand’s Finn Hamill and Ben Mason.
Canberra’s premier international rowing festival, presented by Canberra Airport and hosted by Red Shed, takes place from 30 October to 1 November on the iconic waters of Lake Burley Griffin at Black Mountain Peninsula.
