Golden Oar takes flight with Canberra Airport as presenting partner
The Golden Oar is proud to announce Canberra Airport as the official naming rights partner of the regatta, in a landmark three-year partnership that cements the event’s ambition to become a major fixture on the international rowing calendar.
From 2025, the event will be known as The Golden Oar, Presented by Canberra Airport.
The partnership reflects the Golden Oar’s vision to attract the best athletes from across Australia and around the world to Canberra. In its inaugural year, the regatta has already secured international interest, including the participation of Croatian superstars, the Sinkovic Brothers, underscoring the event’s global potential.
As the gateway to Canberra, Canberra Airport provides a natural alignment for the event, welcoming interstate and international competitors, supporters, and visitors to the nation’s capital.
For Canberra Airport, the sponsorship is part of a long-standing commitment to the region’s sporting and community life. The airport has been an active supporter of local teams, cultural organisations, and events that help shape the city’s identity and vibrancy.
Stephen Byron, Managing Director of Canberra Airport, said he was proud to get behind the ambitious event.
“The Golden Oar is exactly the kind of event Canberra Airport is proud to support. It celebrates our region’s sporting spirit in a truly spectacular setting on Lake Burley Griffin, while also drawing local and international visitors to experience all that Canberra has to offer.”
For Red Shed and the Golden Oar organising team, the sponsorship represents an important milestone with John Gasson, President of Red Shed saying the partnership reflects his vision for the event.
“This partnership with Canberra Airport signals that the Golden Oar is not just a local event, but one with international aspirations. With their backing, and the support of the rowing community, we are confident this regatta will grow into one of the most iconic events in the rowing world, right here on Lake Burley Griffin.”
The Golden Oar, Presented by Canberra Airport, will debut on 1–2 November 2025 at Black Mountain Peninsula on Lake Burley Griffin. With a $100,000 prize pool, international athletes, and a vibrant lakeside festival, it promises to be an unmissable celebration of sport and community.
